So You and I Will Live Again

One day I was taping a radio program that was just a series of chats with little children.  We had five or six children come down to the studio, and they were all dressed up in their very best.  I just started talking to them, one at a time.  We were hoping to catch some snatch of conversation that would be good for the broadcast.  The first one was a little five year old, and as she came in, I put her on my lap.  I said to her "Tell me, do you like to go to church?"
"Nope."
I said, "Why not?"
"Too boring."
I lifted her off and said, "Next."
I didn't think that we ought to air that family secret.
I talked to two or three other children, and finally the door opened and a little toddler came in, cute as a button, in a freshly ironed dress.  You know what her mother must have put her through to get her ready to come down to the studio.  What an innocent face.  I picked her up and said, "Well, who are you?"
She said, "Cory."
I said, "How old are you, Cory?"
She raised three fingers.  "Three."
By now I was out of questions, so I said, "Do you know how to sing?"
"Uh-huh."
"Would you like to sing for me?"
"Uh-huh."
Without any prompting she commenced to sing a medley of Primary songs, ending with "I Am a Child of God."  I don't know what that does to you, but I'm kind of tender.  I looked through the window and the engineer was even pushing back a tear or two himself.
Then I said, "Well Cory, you sing like you know God."
"Uh-huh."
I said, "How would a three-year-old know God?"
She looked at me, and I'll never forget the answer.  She said, "Because I have a father."
And I thought, "Oh, the power of a father in the home!"
I said, "Do you know Jesus?"
"Uh-huh."
I said, "Who's Jesus?"
She said, "Our Elder Brother."
I said, "Do you love Jesus?"
She said, "Uh-huh."
"Why do you love Jesus?"
She responded, "Because of what he did for us."
I said, "What did Jesus do for us?"
She came right back and said, "He died for us."
I said, "Why would he do that?"
And she looked at me as if to say, "Well, don't you know?"
She said, "So you and I will live again."

Funny Bunny Loves Veggies

I Loved this funny Bunny card.  We decided to share the card with a couple of Kate's friends...added a little something inside...

Peas and Carrots!  Bunny food.

I was at TaiPan couple of weeks ago and came across a package of veggies (Runt type candy), 6 or 8 little packages inside a large package for about $4.00.  When I saw this card I new the veggies had to be a part of this funny bunny Easter greeting.

If you knew my Kate you would know how fitting this card is for her to give away.  Kate dislikes (and that's putting it mildly) veggies, but LOVES chocolate.

Hope your Easter morning is veggie-free with just a bit of CHOCOLATE.

Tags can be found at Parties and Patterns

Bunny Ear bag pattern can be found here.  They used a Silhouette to cut out fabric.  We did it the old fashioned way...with scissors.

Baskets (.97cents) and ribbon found at TaiPan.  Chocolate Easter eggs found at Costco.

Now to get-a-delivering...down the bunny trail.

Reeses Peanut Butter Blondies-MMMmmm Monday

I have friends who don't love chocolate....WHAT!
This recipe is just for them.  Just a few chocolate chips (easily changed out with vanilla, mint or whatever kind of chip you like), lots of peanut butter flavors and pretty spring colors.  A delicious, moist blondie!

Thanks i heart naptime for sharing your Easter treat!

Reeses Peanut Butter Blondies
Ingredients
2 cups brown sugar
2/3 cup butter (softened)
3 eggs (whisked)
1 tsp vanilla
2 1/2 cup flour
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
3/4 cup peanut butter M&M's (chopped)
1/2 cup chocolate chips
4-5 Reeses peanut butter eggs
Instructions
1. Pre-heat oven to 325 degrees. Cream butter and sugar in a large bowl. Add in eggs and vanilla and stir until combined. In a separate bowl, whisk the baking powder and salt with 1 cup of flour.  Pour into the butter mixture and stir in the rest of the flour. Fold in chocolate chips and M&M's.
2. Grease a 13x9 pan and lightly dust with flour or line with foil. Press 1/2 the dough into the pan with flour on your hands. Cut the Reeses into small pieces and lay them on top of the dough. Place the remaining cookie dough on top of the Reeses. You can add extra M&M's on top if you'd like. Bake for 30-40 minutes or until lightly browned. Oven temps will vary. Test with a tooth pick. The dough should be soft in the center.
3. Allow bars to cool and then enjoy with a cold glass of milk!

Hippity, Hoppity Easters on it's Way

Easter is just around the corner and I'm so ready for Spring color!  We had two sweet sister missionaries over for dinner and thought it might be fun to give them an early Easter treat.

The basket and most of the goodies are from TaiPan.  The flower and ribbon are from Hobby Lobby.  No Fuss, just Fun!

This cute little chick was so ADORABLY funny that I had to include in the basket.  I love the hair...reminds me of my son's morning bedhead.
(also found at TaiPan)

Happy Spring!

Mom's Split Level Bar Cookies-MMMmmm Monday

Our mom has a little blue recipe binder.  She has had it for years and years...and years!  Over the years she has collected recipes from friends, magazines, cookbooks, etc.  All the BEST recipes would go into this little blue binder.  The binder is pretty worn but the recipes are certainly timeless.  This cookie is exceptionally delicious.

This is what we found in the blue binder...

If you're having trouble reading...here is another version:

Split Level Bar Cookies
2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
2/3 cup evaporated milk
6 oz. cream cheese
1 cup chopped walnuts
4 Tbsp. sesame seeds
1/2 tsp. salt
1-1/2 cup sugar
1 cup softened oleo (butter)
(yes you can tell this is an OLD recipe...what is Oleo!)
2 eggs

In saucepan combine choc. chips, cream cheese and milk.  Melt over low heat, stirring constantly.  Remove from heat, stir in nuts, seeds, vanilla, blend.
Set aside.
In large mixer bowl combine remaining ingredients.  Blend with pastry blender just until particles are fine.  Press half of mixture in greased 13x9" pan.  Spread with chocolate mixture.  Sprinkle with remaining crumbs.
Bake at 375 degrees for 20-25 minutes.  Cool.
